livin' the dream

peeing into my sink
two for one gyro special
is getting easier to eat
but damn - I'd much rather drink
just enough to make me sleep
pushing boredom away and deeper
where nightmares disappear
scattered thoughts on paper
just wishing you were here

livin' here at the marshall
sometimes it really seems
that I'm livin' the dream

satin legs and bouncy breasts
never settling for less
stalking down michigan ave
on a sunny shady day
kung fu minstrels juggling burdens
much too large to see
blind neighbors search for cover
legless beggars pull us under
limping pigeons tripping
down hallways of forgotten lives
enough to make me realize
it is a choice to survive

livin' here at the marshall
sometimes it really seems
that I'm livin' the dream

trying to fall asleep at last
with a heart that never rests
transients are always welcome
when you're lost without a past
days drift by like train cars
so deep within their spell
passing life at this hotel
where even souls are hard to sell
but when my life finally bursts
into beauty rarely seen
please come try to find me
livin' here at the marshall
livin' the dream
