madness

madness is the space
between one face yielding to the next
falling inside myself where forms
try to find themselves again through
vague memories and pictures in thoughts
familiar sounds and smells walking by
back down childhood streets of freshly
cut grass and screams of kids and cars
another day passing in a endless
stream of existing through senses
without a need for making sense
remembering moments of emotion
drifting away from loved ones
as they wander beyond our reach

death awaits us as surely as
it takes others before our eyes
rushing too fast for some truth
to be gleaned about the passage
of events tied forever to our lives
time at last is seen as a shift
between positions of viewing myself
trying to imagine what you might see
the last time I saw your face
I hold as a moment and time to be you
and to feel your passing as pieces
of love taken away from us all
ripped away from your life
as we tumble and fall
