the edge

when you
stumble home drunk
peeing in your pants
on the way up the stairs
you climb into the bathtub
fully clothed playing your
trumpet and falling asleep
as your tub overflows
you wake up to a voice
yelling 'housekeeping!'

when you lose yourself
to vertigo arrogance horror
forgetfulness and dancing
where you will always burn
for those who feel you
and die for those who
fear themselves

the price is your life
which you offer up
shaking and crying
for the promise
of love

I have seen it twice
once falling from a cliff
in greece searching for feathers
and every time I fall out
of myself on stage

now it waits for me
tickling my heart
and laughing
